Work in Orphanage

Kenya is a nation of contrasts. On one hand it is a natural paradise, on the other it is plagued by social and economic problems with a far-reaching impact. Poverty and disease are rampant, often ripping families apart, and making children into orphans. A great many children have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, by extreme poverty, or other unfortunate social circumstances. The best efforts of the Kenyan government to care for these children cannot reach them all, and orphanages are chronically over-flowing. Even at their best, these care facilities are underfunded and understaffed. In simple words, there is an immense need of volunteers in Kenya orphanages. Boundless Loves’s Kenya orphanage volunteer program invites volunteers to lend a hand and help support local orphanages and childcare centers. Most affordable quality volunteer work in Uganda are available through Boundless Loves. We strive to keep our costs low. The humanitarian side of the business is our passion. Boundless Loves’s volunteer abroad in Uganda application and registration fee cost US $299.

In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly to your host family and project. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The Uganda volunteer opportunity program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses, which would typically be around $30 a day for room and meals at a hostel.

Accommodations and Meals

Are you a little bit curious about what you might eat, or where you might be staying in Uganda? Boundless Loves is committed to making sure its volunteers have safe, and comfortable experiences, which includes all your daily needs. We make sure you are well-housed, comfortable, and well fed, with options available to you. During your volunteering program in Uganda, Boundless Loves's weekly fees include management of volunteers' meal plans and accommodations throughout projects. You will stay with a host family. Volunteers staying with a host family usually have a single bedroom, but may occasionally share a room with another volunteer of the same gender. Our host families are chosen carefully and are esteemed community members, who have experience with hosting international travellers. Three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided and will consist of local ingredients and feature traditional cuisine choices.

Travel and Weekend

Uganda is an exciting country to travel. As a volunteer with Boundless Loves, you won’t miss out on the opportunity to see exciting places. Work days are typically 4-6 hours long, leaving the rest of the day open for adventure, and weekends are entirely yours to use for exploring, or whatever your heart desires.

Arrival and Orientation

Which airport do I need to fly in?

You will be flying to Entebbe International Airport, Entebbe, Uganda. This may vary depending upon the nature of the project and its location that you have chosen. You will be given this information directly once you have been selected for a program.

What happens if I missed flight or arrived late to join my volunteer program in Uganda?

If you miss your flight, we are prepared to adapt and make sure you still get picked up and taken to your program. You should contact the in-country coordinator and explain him about your delay and also about the missed flights, who will make all the necessary adjustments to the schedule.

Who will come to pick up me? How do I recognize the person at the airport?

You will be picked up at the airport by our in-country coordinator or a project related staff member. You can easily figure out the person as he or she will be holding a placard with your name on it. If you miss your pick up or cannot find that person, you will only need to call the in-country coordinator immediately at the number provided.

Where are the projects located?

Our volunteering opportunities in Uganda are located in the city of Kampala.

Kampala is the capital and largest city of Uganda, with plenty of attractions. You can observe its natural, free-flowing waterfalls, or visit its ancient historical places of importance. You may also choose to visit to the National Theater. When you are ready to get to the heart of it, you can visit the crowded and bustling market area of Balikuddembe and Nakasero, where swarms of people go about their daily buying chores.

Will I have enough time to travel after work and in weekend?

Yes, there is enough time available for you to travel after work and also on the weekends. You will learn about local attractions during your stay.

Who will guide or support me during my Uganda volunteering program?

You will be well guided and supported by the in-country coordinator and the project staff. These people are professionals who will be available to you whenever you ask, or at the earliest possible convenience.

Can I change project if I do not like?

Yes, you can change your volunteer in Uganda program if you are not satisfied with it. However, to date more than 95% of our volunteers report having a happy and satisfying experience. To change your project you need to contact your in-country coordinator.

Can I work in more than one project?

Generally you are not allowed to work in more than one volunteer program at a time, as it is simply not practical. If in case that you really want to work in two Uganda volunteer programs, you will need to talk to the in country coordinator. Regardless, you will absolutely have to complete the current project that you are working on before engaging a new one.

Will I receive training before the start of the project?

Yes, training is given to you before you actually begin. The training is provided by the in country coordinator, and will cover important topics such as local cultural beliefs, traditions, language, and sentiments of the people, as well as do’s and don’ts for personal security.

Is there dress code in the project?

Yes, there is a specific dress code that is needed to be followed here in this program. In Uganda you should dress conservatively in order to respect local customs. No short-shorts, or tank tops should be worn while working in a project.

Boundless Loves is a not-for-profit organization. The payment that you make helps us in running the day to day operations, maintenance, and other administrative activities. It also goes to cover your food and accommodations.

Boundless Lovess Uganda volunteer opportunity’s fees are more affordable than other volunteer organization because we follow a non-profit business model. Our programs do not involve any kind of middlemen, helping to keep costs at a minimum.

Can I get help to raise fund?

Yes you get adequate help and support for raising funds while taking part in Volunteer opportunity in Uganda. We put you through our existing and various ongoing fund raising volunteering campaigns. We also have a network of local organizations, with whom you will be put in touch for more help and overall information on fundraising.

Safety and In-country Support Team

Is it safe to travel to Uganda?

Yes, it is safe to travel and volunteer in Uganda, but with necessary precautions. You should always keep yourself updated about current events and any recent advisories about the country to which you are traveling.

What are safety measures you take for the volunteers working in Uganda program?

Safety measures are always of paramount concern for us. We make sure that you arrive safely and get back home safely. Upon arrival, you are picked up from the airport and transferred to our office, where an orientation program awaits, organized by our in country coordinator. The orientation provides with the relevant dos and don’ts about the entire program. We are always available to discuss or help with any and all safety concerns you may have during your stay.

What Vaccination Do I need to take?

While taking part in volunteering opportunities in Uganda some vaccinations will be required. Please consult the center for disease controls traveler's health recommendations for the latest information. These are a few recommended vaccinations by CDC for Uganda. Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, cholera, yellow fever, rabies, meningitis, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and peruses), chickenpox, shingles, pneumonia and influenza and others.

Visa

What kind of visa do I need to work as a volunteer?

You need to apply for a tourist visa for taking part in volunteer opportunities in Uganda. You can get tourist visa and all relevant information from the Ugandan embassy nearest you, or online.
